Cochin International Airport Ltd is set to commission the Arippara SHEP 4.5 MW project in Nellipoyil Village of ThamarasseryTaluk in Kozhikode District in Kerala. The project site can be accessed from Kandappanchal town.
The project involves construction of an overflow type weir across the river, which divert water to an intake pool from where the intake structure and connected water conductor system (WCS) starts. A Surge tank is proposed to moderate the water flow during load acceptance and load rejection time. A penstock commencing from the surge tank is proposed to feed the two machines of each 2.25MW capacity. A surface powerhouse, with horizontal Francis Turbine is proposed at the right bank of the river with an installed capacity of 4.5MW (2×2.25 MW) anticipating 10 % over load.
